Grandad loved to have his family around & he loved seeing his family grow. He would say to Nan at family gatherings “look, we made this!”.
Our Grandfather, Peter John Witherden was born on 30th June 1929, the second Son of Alice and Charles and the younger brother of Bob.
In his earlier years, Grandad was a proud Royal Air Force service man serving for five and half years before eventually leaving the military as a Corporal. After leaving the Royal Air Force he met his wife, our Nan, Eileen. They married in 1954 and they began a very long farming career. Together they had three children.
Although a tough career Grandad loved farming and as well as being a farmer, Grandad had a great passion for gardening, spending many happy hours throughout his life tending to his garden with Nan.
In his later years and into retirement, Grandad and Nan had many great adventures with their good friends from the Upchurch Darby and Joan Club. With these friends him and Nan would often go away together, touring the UK and enjoying their golden years together.
Everybody that met and knew Grandad, knew him for his infectious happy and cheeky personality. With such a warm and cheerful nature, Grandad always made friends wherever he went.
Grandad also loved to have his family around him (all 22.5 of us!) and he took great satisfaction from seeing his family grow. He was often known to say to Nan at family gatherings “look, we made this!”.
Our Grandad passed away on Thursday 4th June 2020 and was survived by our Nan. He was a proud, warm and loving family man who will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. He left this world a proud Husband, Father, Father-in-Law, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.
