Born in Croydon in 1964. Andy joined the Merchant Navy at just 16 years old as an ordinary seaman and later promoted to able seaman.

Andy’s first posting was on the Merchant Navy British Tay where he visited Algeria, America and Belgium, followed by an operational deployment on the British Forth and the Royal Fleet Axillary Service in the Falklands War. On the Merchant Navy Sivand vessel and the British Kennett, Andy visited Australia, Bombay, Bahrain, India and Singapore. On the British Respect Andy visited Brunei, British Virgin Island, Scilly and South Africa. Andy’s last posting was on the British Forth where he visited Belgium, France, New York, Netherlands and Russia where his career in the Merchant Navy sadly came to an end.

In addition to his ordinary seaman duties Andy achieved the following qualifications: Efficiency in Lifeboatman, Merchant Navy fire fighter course, Merchant Navy Steering Certificate (Steering a ship having a gross tonnage of over 100tons) and Engine Room Watch duties.

Andy’s favourite weekend was Remembrance weekend. Andy loved the displays, parades, TV programmes and always wore his poppy with great pride. Andy would be delighted that a tribute page has been set up in his honour.

Andy went on to marry Julie and they had 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Andy loved spending time with his family and enjoyed looking after his grandchildren and watching the many milestones his grandchildren achieved.

Also known as the gentle giant, Andy had an infectious laugh and the biggest smile. Andy didn’t just come into your life, Andy made a lasting impact on peoples lives.

Andy will be missed by so many people.
